Dan Barry of the Hartford Advocate reviewed Sweetheart Mountain in his March 30 Local Motion column. Here's some of what he had to say . . .
"Aside from having one of the best band names ever, Sweetheart Mountain is a guitar-fiddle duo that plays bluegrass and old-time music. If you're anything like me, these genres weren't even on your radar until O Brother, Where Art Thou? came out. Interested in further exploring these musical forms? Sweetheart Mountain is a good place to start. Arlene DeMaris and Sean MacDonald come armed with a variety of traditional songs about travel, love, alcohol and what may or may not happen when you mix the three. 'Jack o' Diamonds' gives MacDonald a chance to dig into his gravelly low register. DeMaris, for her part, shines on the group's slow, wordless waltzes." Thanks, Dan! |
