The past month was busy for Sweetheart Mountain as we played gigs, started a regular weekly practice (at last!) and shamelessly promoted ourselves.  Here are some highlights . . .

CT Park & Rec Entertainment Showcase, February 9, 2006

This was an interesting day.  Every year, the Connecticut Recreation and Parks Association puts on an Entertainment Showcase in which representatives from park & rec departments all over the state come to check out (and book) musicians, artists, clowns, magicians and the like at the East Hartford Community Cultural Center.  We had our 15 minutes of fame (timed and enforced with a loud buzzer) onstage in the auditorium, then set up a table with CDs, promo stuff and cookies in the gym.  We got to meet some friendly people and pat the magician's bunnies and dove across the aisle from us.  And we came away with at least one gig and the promise of a few more to come.

Roaring Brook Nature Center, February 22, 2006

We were the featured act for the February open mic at Roaring Brook Nature Center.  This time we got a half-hour of fame, some fine baked goods and a chance to jam with Kevin Gallagher and Bette of Scavengers fame.  Friends came to cheer us on, plus we were able to listen to a lot of talented people.  The standard of musicianship is high at Roaring Brook and we felt honored to be a feature.  A big thanks to Stan Sullivan fo asking us to play and to all who came out!

The Mercier Project -- A Celtic Concert, March 5, 2006

Mark Mercier, amazing keyboardist of Max Creek and Collinsville friend, invited us to play with a stellar group of musicians at the First Church of Christ in Simsbury, where he is choir director.  Musicians included Gary Backstrom (from Jiggle the Handle and The Gary Backstrom Band) on guitar; Kevin Lynch (from WWUH, the CT Bluegrass Music Association and the band Truegrass) on mandolin; Jonathan Lichtig on upright bass; Rob Csugie (from the Bridgeport band Hubinger Street); and Chris D'Amato (from the bands Smokin' Opie and Round Robin) on Dobro(s) and Gibson J45
